The DU840 is always "on" in order to monitor all of your systems 24/7. The rugged enclosure of the DU840 is fully water proofed and designed to display your critical data even in the harshest of environmental conditions.

The 8.4” 256 color VGA high resolution LCD panels are the same as the ones used in aviation cockpits. Direct bonded anti-reflective glass technology insures that the display remains fog free in low temperature conditions and readable in direct sunlight from any viewing angle.

When it comes down to display readability, it’s all about contrast. Instead of fighting the sun’s effect just by brute-force brightness, better results can be obtained by increasing contrast in two ways.

Direct Bonded Glass

The displays feature optical quality glass sputtered with multiple layers of anti-reflective coatings. This dramatically increases contrast by reducing glare from the display’s front surface. The glass is then directly bonded to the surface of the LCD panel, eliminating condensation in low temperature conditions.

Passive & Active backlight enhancements

Luminance from the CCFL tubes are effectively enhanced using layers of polarized filters without increasing power or heat dissipation.

The low profile bezel allows a flush mounted, clean unobtrusive look that complements any existing installed navigation equipment. The DU840 is also designed to be attached to any VESA compatible mounting system made by a wide variety of manufacturers - such as Ram-Mounts.

Wireless Connection

The DU840 comes equipped with a wireless 802.11b antenna (also known as WiFi), which enables the Display to receive sensor data wirelessly instead of through its Ethernet port. Although the Display requires a 12 - 24 volt DC cable and is not truly portable, it can be easily installed in difficult locations or moved around your vessel.

The same Krill sensor data that is shown on the DU840 dedicated display is now available on any PC running SoftDisplay software. All of the setup menus and the user interface remain the same as the DU840 display.

SoftDisplay is ideal for vessels with crowded helm stations that already have large PC monitors installed. SoftDisplay may be run concurrently with PC Navigation software such as Nobeltec or Coastal Explorer. SoftDisplay can run in the background until an Alarm condition is detected, at which point its window will become activated and "pop" to the foreground.

Because SoftDisplay runs on a generally more powerful Windows PC platform, several additional features are available.

Navigation System Page

Unlike other Navigational software such as Nobeltec, SoftDisplay comes with a boat-wide license. You may run SoftDisplay on as many PC's as you want, as long as you are looking at your own boat data.

Navigation "Heads Up" Page

The Navigation Page is similar to the display found in commercial Boeing or Airbus cockpits. All data affecting your boat's navigation is in graphical format. No data boxes with just numbers here!

SoftDisplay Navigation Information

NMEA 0183 Serial Connection

All of the navigation data shown above originates from NMEA 0183 serial ports on the PC. Because serial ports cannot be shared among software programs, if you are running navigation software on the same PC as the SoftDisplay, you will have to provide additional serial input ports for SoftDisplay's exclusive use. Please see the Intallation manual for more information.

Sensor Pods

Each Krill Sensor Pod is specialized for measuring a particular system on a boat. Additional Pods may be added at any time to expand the number of sensors that are desired to be monitored.

ESM1 Electrical System Monitor

ESM1 Electrical System Monitor

The ESM1 is designed to measure all of the parameters of an electrical system found on most medium sized vessels. The ESM1 supports 3 basic types of input:
  • AC (voltage, current, power, frequency) - 2 inputs
  • Battery (voltage, current, capacity remaining) - 3 banks
  • DC (current) - 5 sources or loads
A typical application would be to connect the ESM1 to the following equipment:
  • AC shore power
  • AC generator
  • House battery bank
  • Two starting battery banks for each engine
  • Two alternator DC outputs from each engine
  • Two inverter chargers
  • Total DC current consumption
Up to two ESM1's may be used within the total system.

TSM1 Tank & Switch Monitor

TSM1 Tank & Switch Monitor

Each TSM1 is designed to measure up to 5 tanks and up to 5 switched circuits.

Any tank equipped with a resistive sender may be used. For increased accuracy, each sender is measured with a regulated voltage that is completely isolated from the state of the House battery. The TSM1 can also optionally utilize up to 8 custom calibration points that take the tank shape into consideration when determining fluid amount remaining.

A switched circuit is any type of electrical circuit that is switched on or off, such as pumps, fans, lights or contact switches. The TSM1 senses the presence of voltage for these inputs; any simple contact switch must be wired to an external voltage source to operate correctly.

Up to 5 TSM1’s may be installed within the total system, enabling the monitoring of up to 25 tanks and 25 switched circuits.

Tank Sensor Cable

A single 5 meter cable connects one of the TSM1’s Tank ports to a resistive tank sender (not included) on your boats.

Please note that tanks senders are unique to each vessel, and is not included in the Starting Package. Your vessel must have standard resistive senders such as those made by WEMA, VDO or Teleflex. Proprietary tank senders such as CompuTank, Centroid, Tank Tender or Snake River cannot be used.

Switch Sensor Cable

A single 5 meter cable connects one of the TSM1’s Switch ports to a voltage source to be monitored.

KrillNet™

The network that transfers the sensor data is the heart of any digital instrumentation system. Tying all the Display Units and Sensor Pods together is a reliable data network called KrillNet™.

KrillNet Krill Systems Vessel Monitoring

KrillNet is implemented with industry standard shielded Ethernet, with all Krill devices connected together by a central Ethernet switch.  There is no practical limit to the number of Display Units or Sensor Pods that can be added, as multiple Ethernet Switches can be cascaded together to grow KrillNet to accommodate any number of Krill devices.

Sensor data is gathered through individual yellow sensor cables by the approriate Sensor Pod mounted close to the sensors. The Sensor Pods then send the collected data over the Ethernet to all the known Displays in the system through the Ethernet Switch.

What makes the KrillNet unique is that there are no confusing network configuration parameters such as IP addresses to enter. Simply plug in a new device and it is instantly recognized by all of the other existing Krill devices on the network. KrillNet is also responsible for making sure that if any Sensor Pod configuration data is changed, all of the Displays are notified so that they always display the same sensor data.

Wireless Connection

If your Vessel is equipped with a wireless router, KrillNet can be connected directly to one of the router's ports. Krill sensor data will then be instantly available to any wireless device such as a Krill DU840 or Laptops running Krill SoftDisplay software.
